The idea came to me while consulting in a primary school. I watched a financial education session for young children — full of good intentions, but it felt like an adult presentation delivered to the wrong audience. Facts instead of imagination. Information instead of stories.
Children don’t need another abstract lesson about money. They need stories and feelings they’ll remember. That single moment became the beginning of The Financial Fairy Tales.
“Money doesn’t grow on trees.” “A fool and his money are soon parted.” Those sayings become part of us long before we’re old enough to question them.
It wasn’t until my forties that I realised how many of my own beliefs about money had been inherited rather than chosen. Research suggests our money habits begin forming in early childhood — and if that’s true, the greatest opportunity isn’t helping adults repair unhealthy beliefs. It’s helping children develop positive ones from the start.
That’s the purpose behind every Financial Fairy Tale.
The books
The Financial Fairy Tales series now includes five illustrated storybooks and an activity book, used in over 120 schools across 15 countries and translated into multiple languages. Each story is built around a core financial value — saving, enterprise, generosity, resilience, financial decision-making — wrapped in an adventure that children genuinely want to hear again.

Working with schools
